Dear sir/madam, Private home owners are ineligible from purchasing a BTO unit direct from HDB but they are free to make purchases in the resale HDB market. As a downgrader, what you will need to ensure will be the eligibility to purchase under the various HDB schemes, assuming that financially you are sound to do so. You will be required to relinquish your ownership of the private property within a period of 6 months after taking possession of the HDB unit, and that Seller's Stamp Duty maybe applicable to the sale of your private property depending on when you purchase this private property. Upon taking possession of the HDB unit, you will be required to fulfil a 5years Minimum Occupation Period, where you will be ineligible to purchase any form of private residential properties. Do consider carefully about such plans as I have met clients who regretted making this move. Perhaps you may wish to share more on why are you planning this downgrade.
