Rented property (terraced house) has an active termite infestation that has spread to all floors of the housing. We noticed initial signs of termite infestation 1-2 months after we moved in.
We have repeatedly sent pictures of the termite infestation to the landlord and the property agent, but the problem was ignored by both.
Throughout the years of leasing, we have also tried to remedy the termite infestation by putting termite poison near the signs of activity, to no avail.
Our lease will be ending in a few months', what are our rights as a tenant? Will the landlord be able to legally recover the damage caused by the termites from us? Considering that the issue was already present 1-2 months after we started renting, we do not feel responsible for it. The landlord is now claiming that the termite infestation was not present before we started renting.
Note: There is no agreement on tenant responsibility for pest/ termite control in the TA.
