My wife and I are looking to buy a resale flat as joint buyers. My son has separately bought his resale flat under the Single (age 35+) Scheme. However in his resale application he listed my wife (his mother) as an occupant (but not a buyer). Now, when my wife and I later submit our own resale application as buyers, is my wife allowed to terminate her occupancy in her son's flat and resume being a joint buyer with me in our resale application? I understand she cannot be both an occupant in my son's flat and at the same time be a buyer of another flat. Pls advise, thanks.

Hi Robert,

You will be able to purchase a resale flat together with your Wife. Your Wife will become the co-owner with you (under Public Scheme) and cease her occupancy status in your Son's flat.

Yes you will be able to purchase a resale hdb with your wife as joint buyers for this resale application. HDB will remove her name as an occupier in your son's flat. Your wife's name is not required as an occupier and can be removed from your son's flat since he is already eligible to purchase as a sole owner without any occupier.

you require Mrs Wang's name to form a family nucleus to purchase a resale HDB.

Do ask your son to approach his HDB branch office to remove your wife's name as occupier since he is able to hold on to the HDB as a single singaporean.
