My landlord (a company based in SG) has sublet a unit from JTC to me a year ago. I had alr paid a one-time sublet fee of SGD500 at that time. Recently, my landlord has increased the rent upon renewal and a new contract has been drawn and signed. However, a one time adminstration fee of SGD200 and a monthly sublet fee of SGD262 is to be imposed to me for the new rental period on top of the increased rental... I am now paying alot more than just the increased rental for this unit.

I urgently need some expert advice if the sublet fee monthly should be borne by me or my landlord?? Which authority am I able to enquire this with??

In my view, you should negotiate with the tenant to let them be the one to bear the charges. If the negotiation breaks down, do look for alternative locations are there are many where you may lease directly with the Landlords without having to pay such fees. Most Landlords will charge an admin fee nonetheless. Read More
