My husband and myself own an hdb flat each.. We got married 2 years ago, its our 2nd marriage and have been shuffling between the two flats as we both have our parents and kids living with us separately. Our question is there any ruling that we both have to sell away our flats and purchase a flat together? Or can he sell his flat, buy a bigger flat under his name so we can all live under one roof while i retain mine and rent it. Or should we rent out both flats and we in turn also rent a private terrace house? We have 7 children between us. What is the best option for us? Please advise? Thanks.

Afternoon Naz,

Under normal situation, when both of you are married, you are supposed to inform HDB about the union and sell away one of the unit. In your case, if you are looking at jumbo HDB unit, both of you have to sell off your HDB unit to facilitate the purchase. Other factors like your household income, expenses, credit record and financial budget will help you determine the better options.

With your alternative, do you think by renting out both HDB unit and renting a terrace unit is feastible? Getting a terrace flat with $5k rental?

Do feel free to contact me if you require further assistance.
