Hi,
1) Once you inform the HDB that you will not be staying in your flat after your posting. The HDB will halt the timing of the MOP till you return to occupy it again.
2) You will still have to complete the 9 months of stay before you complete your MOP.
3) 2 things will be affected:
(a) You won't be allowed to sell it in the open market until you fulfilled the 5 yrs of minimum stay.
(b) You won't be allowed to invest in another residential property until the 5yrs is clocked.
4) You may submit a request to the HDB to rent out the whole unit while you are away. This period of renting out will not be clocked as own occupying.
5) You must promptly inform the HDB once you are back in order to get the clock ticking. But you will not be allowed to continue to rent out the whole unit once you update that you declared to take back for your own use.
6) Remember that you may have to provide proof of posting in order to get approval for renting out the whole unit.
7) You are supposed to provide proof of returning and taking it back for your own use in order for the HDB to act accordingly.
