It is advisable to look onto the listing portal daily in order not to miss out on any such opportunities. I do not think listing agents will see this message and PM you at all. If you decide not to engage the services of an agent for the rental, then you need to put in the hard work to find the listing, but i doubt you will be able to get master bedroom at $1,000 now and still be able to cook.
