Hi Iris,

Tenancy renewal period usually takes place 2 months before expiry of the current tenancy agreement, therefore any short term extension should also be done during this period in order not to discount your interest in securing the next prospective tenant. By doing so, tenant have better interest for themselves in considering the renewal or seeking cheaper and better options out there which puts you at a disadvantage. I have a tenant whose tenancy agreement is due to expire in end December 2014 and he has already expressed his interest to extend his current tenancy by 2 months until February 2015 due to uncertainty over his employment here in Singapore. He will also need to indicate his interest in renewal by end December 2014. I am also in discussion with another tenant whose tenancy is running out by end December 2014 too, and we are now in discussion over the renewal terms and conditions. This 2 months period is crucial in planning out your next move, therefore do not compromise on your interest wherever possible.
