Hi,

Unfortunately your wife can't purchase a hdb on her sole name as hdb classifies a married couple as one entity family nucleus. You need to be able to form that family nucleus to purchase resale hdb, hence your name needs to be added to the hdb purchase. However, purchasing condos individually on your sole names is possible. Not too sure what are your plans in doing so, but will be glad to explore solutions and workarounds with you to meet your objectives.

Dear sir,

I am assuming that your reason for your question is such that you can be able to avoid ABSD for property purchase if the HDB purchase is only under your wife's name.

Even if your name can be listed as an essential occupier for the HDB, if your wife is financially ready to purchase the HDB under her own name, you will still be required to observe the 5 years MOP before you are able to purchase another private residential property.

I will highly encourage you to look into restructuring your manner of holding in the properties, possibly only sell away the HDB and purchase a small quantum private property for rental income as investment instead. It will be good to be able to sit down and have a more thorough discussion.

Afternoon,

As you and your wife are married, HDB will consider both of you as an entity. For the purchase of HDB unit, your wife can purchase it under her name only but with you as essential occupier. With this, you will also be limited to buying your second property until MOP have being fulfilled.

To answer your question, NO, you cannot buy HDB with just one name since both of you are legally married.
