Once 2 persons join as a family unit, the family is eligible to buy one HDB flat. In this case, one spouse owns a private property, the family unit, either owner or occupier, is deemed to own a private property already. The family unit may (using hubby as owner) may proceed with buying a resale HDB flat, but must dispose it within 6 months of collecting keys or completion of sales and purchase agreement of the resale HDB flat.
However, you may confirm with HDB according to the latest cooling measures, family unit (below 55 years old ) need to wait for 15 months in order to buy resale HDB after disposing off private property.

Not possible. Husband and wife are considered a single entity, thus the husband cannot purchase a resale flat under his own name, unless wife disposes her interest in the condo, wait out for 15 months period before the husband is eligible. Read More

Hi Mdm,

It is not possible for your husband to buy a resale flat but as HDB views a married couple as a single entity, he will need to include your name as an essential occupier in the flat. Under the current rules and regulations, you will need to sell the private condo and wait out a 15 months period before you are eligible to become an essential occupier.

For your case, it will make better sense if your husband purchase a private condo under his name instead without the need for Additional Buyer Stamp Duty. Please feel free to contact me so that I can understand your intentions and assist you further!

Good afternoon,

purchasing a resale HDB will requires a family nucleus to do so which also means wife has to be included in the purchase if husband decides to buy a resale HDB. He cant do it alone.

On top of that if wife is not 55 years old, wife has to dispose off interest in condo first and observe 15 months waiting period before eligible to buy a resale HDB.
