I rented this unit, after renting I experienced bizarre issues first from the owner’s agent for which I had to make a police report.
After shifting to this place there is a drainage problem with washing machine. It’s been 3 months and still the defect has not been resolved. The owner is asking me to ask money from the management for my laundry as I am unable to use the washing machine. Above all he is being misleading and trying to harass me stating it’s not his fault. I’m also disappointed that every time I return from overseas I need to give my laundry outside. The owner keeps speaking like a boss and seeing I’m an old woman takes advantage. A Malay man with so much malice. Is this my fault ?

Sorry to hear about your situation. Basing on your description, you seem to have reasons to terminate the lease, but do check with your professional legal advisor on what your rights are in this situation and what you intend to do. If you have appointed an agent to represent you in this rental, perhaps you can reach out to the agent and see if he/she can help.

- First, it's not your fault. As a tenant, you have the right to a functional living space, and the landlord is responsible for resolving maintenance issues.
- Document all communications with the owner and the agent, including any promises or agreements made.
- If the drainage problem persists, you can escalate the issue to the HDB or the relevant authority to seek assistance.
- Consider consulting with a legal advisor to understand your rights and explore options for addressing the harassment and unresolved maintenance issue.
- Keep pressing for a resolution while ensuring all interactions are well-documented for your protection.
