Asked by
I recently rented a house in Singapore. As soon as i moved in, agent informed us that house is on Sale and we have to allow viewings. I informed them that i have small baby and was looking for quite stay and why owner or agent didn't inform us that house was on sale. In case i was informed i would not have rented this house.
But instead of listening to my problems they are saying as per Tenancy Agreement i have to allow viewings and I have no other option.
Can owner go legal for this?
Please suggest me what options i have in this case.

Hi, it still voice down to what was written in the TA. If nothing was stated there, then you have the right not to agree to the new terms.

It is definitely an unfortunate incident. Even if the unit was not planned to be on sale at the point of your decision in renting this unit, the decision can perhaps come later due to unforeseen circumstances. Since the tenancy agreement has a clause indicating for viewings arrangements to be made for potential buyer, it will be in your interest to work out on a schedule with the agent for future viewings such that your inconveniences is reduced to minimal. This is my usual arrangement when I take on assignments where unit is tenanted to reduce the inconvenience for the tenants.

Hi

You may take Geryl's suggestion to work out a schedule for viewing.

Next time, do engage an agent to represent you. It will help to resolve most issues and the headaches.

As suggested, Do go thru your TA.

It is standard that viewing be allowed at the final 2 months of your lease. But not always stated that 'owner is selling' ...so do check.

And if nothing is stated in there, i suggest you report to CEA about this agent. Read More
