Prabha, according to regulations, short term accommodation of less than 6 months requires a special permit, of which most private properties are not licensed to rent.
For such short term rental, you should look at service apartments or hotels.
Should the landlord be caught, you would be required to vacate the premises within very short notice. The landlord may then not refund your deposit, as the contract between you and the landlord is not valid, and as it would not be permitted to be stamped by the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore.
You would then be caught at the loosing end. In all cases, it is therefore advisable for all tenants to engage a real estate professional to represent you for dealings with the Landlord's real estate agent. That way, your interests will be safeguarded.
