I have started a 2 yrs rental unit on 12th Jul 22. However due to unforeseen work resignation, I am unable to pay the monthly rental of $4450. I am planning to inform my agent on the early termination, to end on 12th Aug 22.

My TA has the clause “Tenant shall in any event reimburse the Landlord on a pro rata basis the commission the Landlord has paid to [XXX Real Estate Agent] for the remaining unfulfilled term.”

Due to my tight financial situation, I would need to know how much is the total penalty I am required to pay on the end of my 1st month of rental. So that I can make some arrangements.

Dear sir/mdm,

I am sorry to hear about your situation, and depending on the contractual obligations, you may not only need to reimburse the Landlord on a pro rata basis the commission the Landlord has paid for the remaining unfulfilled term, you may also wish to look into when are you able to exercise the diplomatic clause, assuming if you are a foreigner, or if there is any premature termination clause details.

I reckon that speaking to the landlord as soon as possible about your situation could be more helpful and if possible, your employer can come in to assist in this situation.
