I have recently rented an apartment and my agent has handed over the signed agreement on a plain white paper to me already. Now he is asking for stamp duty, I don't understand why do I need to pay for stamp duty and how is it calculated. Please help

In the LOI and the TA will state that tenant has to pay stamp duty.
This is common practice in Singapore.

Dear Tenant,

It is a usual practise for tenants to be paying the stamp duty and it is calculated as 0.4% of the total rent amount payable.
