It will depend on the manner of holding both properties. To be eligible for ABSD remission, both properties must be under the names of both husband and wife, and the sale of existing property has to be within 6 months from purchasing the 2nd property. If existing property only has 1 name, then there is no ABSD remission. Or if you intend to purchase the next property under 1 name, you will also not qualify for ABSD remission. Yes, you may be eligible for Additional Buyer's Stamp Duty (ABSD) remission when you purchase a second private property after disposing of your first property. The remission is subject to the conditions:

If you satisfy these conditions, you may apply for ABSD remission and subject to approval

1. Steps in selling

Hi Melvin,

If you own the property under your sole name, you will NOT be eligible for ABSD remission. ABSD remission is only applicable for matrimonial property and you will need to pay up the ABSD first and will be able to claim it back if you manage to sell off the current property within a 6 months period.

For your case, to avoid incurring ABSD, you will need to plan the sale and purchase concurrently with the sale first, followed by the purchase. In this way, you will be able to minimise your cash outlay and also avoid the need for ABSD.

To avoid the ABSD you will need to sell away the existing property first before purchasing the next one. This is because remission is only for jointly owned matrimonial properties sale & purchase with at least one SC owner.
