I have a 5 room hdb. How many rooms can I rent out in total? I used to have a study room in the living room but was demolised, can I do partion for that and rent out 3 rooms? The 4th room I want to live in it. Thanks in advance.

Hi, the maximum occupancy for a 5-room HDB flat is 8 persons, including owners and tenants. Due to high rental demand, this cap has been temporarily relaxed to allow up to 8 unrelated persons until 31 December 2028. This rule applies to both renting out the entire flat and renting out individual bedrooms. Pls feel free to let me know if you need any assistance.

A 5-room HDB flat owner can rent out a maximum of 2 bedrooms if you wish to live in the flat.

Only the bedrooms originally constructed by HDB are rented out to eligible persons, subject to the maximum number of persons allowed by HDB. All other parts of the flat (including partitioned rooms) cannot be used as bedrooms for rental.

Renting out all three originally constructed bedrooms is considered renting out the whole flat.
