I bought a 2 room HDB BTO flat few years ago. I am about to receive the key in Jan 18 becos the flat is already completed. I could not live in it for the next 4 years as I have applied for a undergraduate degree course overseas recently and have been accepted. Could I rent my flat for four years and come back to stay in it later? What can I do? Any advises whoever has encountered the same situation like me. Thanks.

Hi Chua,

Don't worry, this is not uncommon.

You may rent out your flat by appealing to HDB stating the reason; and this is a valid reason, with supporting document.

However, you have to be aware that your MOP will be delay as well. That is your MOP will only starts when you return and stay in there for 5 years.
