Asked by
I am turning 35 next year and is intending to buy a resale hdb flat (either 4 room or 5 room) under the Single Scheme.

At the same time, I have a long-term girlfriend and we both planned to get married in the near future. She is an SPR and owns a private condominium.

I have 2 questions:

1) Are we able to jointly apply for a resale HDB (with her name listed as occupant or co-applicant) without having her to dispose her condominium?

2) If I were to buy a flat under the single scheme and subsequently get married with my girlfriend in the next few months, would it be possible to omit her name entirely from the HDB flat, so that she gets to keep her condominium?

Appreciate any inputs from the experts here. Cheers!

Regards,
Ken

Hi Ken,

I just assisted two buyers to value-add their HDB resale purchase last month and they have similar questions just like you do.

To answer to you, no, you should not be applying the HDB flat with your girlfriend as she would need to dispose her private property. Please make your HDB purchase under Singles scheme while you're still single.

Upon marriage, your wife should be leasing out her condo and both of you should be living together in the HDB flat. If you'd like to add her to co-owner, she must dispose her private property.

Please feel free to engage me to assist you with a value-adding, smooth and hassle free purchase of your upcoming home.

Good morning buyer,

If you are opting to purchase a resale HDB, it will be advisable for you to purchase under single scheme before your marriage.

You are able to keep your HDB and her private property after marriage (assuming after purchase of resale HDB).

If not, you will have to purchase under public scheme where your fiance will have to dispose off her private property within 6 months from purchase completion.

By the way, care to share how come you are going for resale flat rather than private property? If not, you will be not in dilemma at all.

Hi Ken,

If your objective is to keep hold of your girlfriend's condo, you will have to purchase your HDB under Single Scheme next year, after you turn 35 years old.

Should you were to include her name in the HDB, either as co-owner or occupier, she will need to dispose off her condo within 6 months of your HDB completion.

Should you have any other queries, please call me at my mobile 9748 6305  . I will be happy to assist.

Thank you.

Best regards,
