If you do not engage him, then there is no obligations to pay, however, if there is a successful match of the tenant for your unit, and the stumbling block to successfully transacting this rental is the paying of commission to the salesperson, it will be up to your discreet to decide if you want to pay him and get this rental in or risk losing rental income. It is a double edged sword in this scenario. I would encourage you to think from an investor point of view to understand what the objectives are from your investment.
