I am getting married in Oct 2016 but currently i'm 37 and single. Can i buy a resale HDB using single scheme before my marriage? If can, then do i have any impact on my flat after my marriage in OCT? Just want to know if i bought the flat using single scheme before i turn my status to married.

Have you applied for the registration at ROM? If not, you are still eligible to purchase under the Single Singapore Citizen Scheme. Thanks and hope to assist with your housing plans further.

Hi Mike,

Ideally, you should purchase the HDB under single scheme. This is because, your wife will not be considered as a owner of a HDB and when you wish to purchase another residential property ie condo for investment, she will NOT be liable for Additional Buyer Stamp Duty of 7%.

Good evening buyer,

As long as you are not legally married, you can go ahead with this purchase under single singapore citizen scheme.

After marriage, you can opt to add her into the ownership or as occupier but she will have to observe the 5 years minimum occupation period as well. If not you can choose not to add her in. This opens up the option for her to purchase a private property solely by herself. She can avoid ABSD.

Alternatively, you can opt to purchase under fiance/ fiancee scheme especially if you wish to purchase a bigger place but your single income is not sufficient to support the purchase.
