I am asked by my agent to sign the CEA Form as to appoint him to market the unit. If I signed the form, can I still ask other agents to do the marketing for my unit? Your advice would be very much appreciate.

Hi,

Once you have appointed your exclusive agent, it doesn't make sense to appoint others if you want him/her to give you the full effort commitment. By doing so, you are creating doubts and disincentives for him/her and it will also impede the progress of your sale. If you have concerns, you might like to feedback to the agent and let him/her know your expectations from the onset. Thanks and hope it clarifies.

Dear seller,

There are 2 different Estate Agency Agreements prescribed by the CEA. 1 is for exclusive and the other is for non-exclusive.

As long as you are sure about your decision in either appointing the salesperson as your exclusive salesperson or not, you just need to check on the forms which you are signing on, since it is a requirement by CEA for salesperson to get permission from the seller to start marketing the property, therefore it is best to make use of CEA prescribed forms for such documentation.

You need to check if the form you have signed is Form 1 or Form 5.

Form 1 is on a non-exclusive basis, while Form 5 is exclusive basis. You can sign many Form 1, but Form 5 should only be signed with one agent.
