Hi, we are hoping to move to Singapore this summer from the UK and we are looking for a condo to rent for our family (2 adults 3 kids). Can you please explain to me the different types of condo/apartment? What is the difference between a condo/apartment? A walk-up? Etc. Thanks

Morning Laura,

Walk-up apartment are normal low raising buildings, might or might not have elevator. It's also likely that it will have very limited or no facilities like pool or gym.
Condo will have at least basic facilities like pool, security and gym. Better ones might also provide BBQ pits, tennis courts, bowling alley, MPH, etc.
As you are coming over with your kiddos, you might want to consider the location which are nearer to their school. Amenitities will also be something you want to look into, coupled with your sizing requirement and budget.

Do contact me for further discussion.

Good morning Laura,

It's only a difference in classification.

If the land size is lesser than 0.4ha or 43055 sqft, it will be classified as apartment. Even though it has common facilities like gym, pool etc, normally they are much smaller scale and doesn't have a tennis court,

While for condos, normally it has a land size of at least 0.4ha or 43055 sqft.

Lastly a walk up apartment normally does not have any lift in the development and doesn't have much common facilities like pool, gym etc. Probably just carpark.

Hope my explanations clarify your doubts.

If you need any assistance or advice in your property rental, feel free to contact me. Cheers!

Dear Laura,

I believe it could be more helpful in your scenario to allow us to match you to prospective units according to your family needs instead of you pouring through the technical terms here which will be no added value to you in terms of time spent. We have professionals here to match you to properties to your needs and housing allowance and save you these hassles.

With the evolution of technology and social media, there are more and more platforms available for expats relocating into Singapore to find out more about culture, transportation and day to day living in Singapore and 1 of these avenues which we have is on this facebook group called New Singapore Expats. Quite a number of my clients got to know me through this group and have benefited from the information being shared on the platform.
