Hi There,

I would like to seek some advice on HDB application (BTO, EC or even resale purchase). My family and I have just been granted Singaporean Citizenship; we are exploring the possibility of applying for a HDB flat. However, I currently have an oversea property - inheritance from parents placed under mine and sibling's ownership since 2004; the property is currently still being tenanted by my parents.

Will I be eligible for BTO application or do a re-sale HDB purchase? Is there possibility of me going through an appeal for HDB application for an exemption on the non foreign property ownership policy for HDB application?

Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,

Unfortunately you have to remove your overseas property ownership regardless of going for BTO or resale. Appeal cases approval on case by case review basis, but chances will be slim and takes a few months processing time. If the finances are comfortable, you may want to consider private property. I'd advise you to get a resale HDB flat, so that you have more time to settle the disposal of your overseas property (you have 6 months from the resale completion date to do it).

You can try appealing to HDB before proceeding on any commitments.

Hi Sir/Mdm,

It is advisable to appeal to HDB for an approval to hold on to the overseas property. Do highlight the circumstances that you became an owner of the property.

Approval is given on a case by case basis. I have assist my clients who managed to keep their overseas property while getting an EC.

Evening,

As the unit have being inherited, it would be tough to obtain approval from HDB to keep the unit and yet eligible for purchase of HDB unit.
If you are looking at getting a BTO unit, you will need to wait for 30 months after selling your share of the unit. Should you be ready to transfer the share of the inherited unit to your siblings, you can look at resale HDB unit.

Good evening buyer,

I will strongly advise you to appeal to hold on to overseas property before you commit into any purchase.

Do take note that it's based on case by case basis. just for your informtion, I had 3 such applications being rejected last year. If not you can opt to transfer the ownership to your sibling.

If you opting for BTO or new EC, you have to first dispose off the overseas property and observe 30 months waiting period before you can apply for either.

Alternatively you can go for resale HDB, you just need to dispose off overseas property within 6 months from purchase completion date will do.

Unless you opt for private property inclusive of resale EC, you dont have to abide by this restriction.
