Good afternoon Eric,

You have to seek approval to rent out the whole unit from your HDB branch office before you can do so.

It will be based on a case by case basis.

Do take note that an owner must physically stay in a flat and fulfil the minimum occupation period of 5 years before you can rent out the whole unit.

If you are worried about the appeal, probably you should consider private property as an alternative.

For subletting of whole units within MOP, you need to apply to appeal to HDB for approval. Approval will be on a case by case basis. Thanks and may I assist with your housing plans further?

Hi Eric, I have encountered such a case like this. As this is a very P&C matter of another client, I will not reveal the details here. But I must just tell you, you may not rent out your HDB, and you will be required to stay in the HDB during your 5 year MOP period.

All HDB buyers are required to fulfill the MOP requirement. In order to rent it out due to overseas assignment, we will need to write in to HDB and request for special approval.
