Hi Voice,
Jonathan has covered most of the technical definitions of your questions. The subtle questions that I am guessing, which you did not ask, I am addressing below, hope my guess is right.
if you are a foreigner, and if you are looking to buy a condominium, its not much of an issue as most condominiums (except the small boutique apartments - which are technically apartments), allow foreigners to buy.
But if you are looking for a landed house, you will need special approval from the Singapore Land Authority.
Suggest you visit www.sla.gov.sg to find out the requirements for your ownership of such properties. This includes shophouses which includes the title for the land it sits on (especially those in Joo Chiat which are mostly used for residential rather than commercial)
If you are purchasing residential property, and you are unfamiliar with the market, its definitely advisable to do more ground work, speak to more people.
Consultation is free of course, so no to worry that we will slap a huge bill just for asking questions :)
Contact me if you need more clarification.
Cheers,
Yian Tay
