Hi,if my dad has passed on, his HDB flat would be inherited by his daughter, i.e. me. Am I eligible to hold ownership of the flat - and rent it out - if I'm married but there is no private property under my name? Thanks.

Hi,

Typically you have to qualify under one of the hdb schemes to be eligible to keep the hdb. Being married I presume you have ownership of another hdb at the moment? If so, you can't keep both hdb and have to sell one. You can confirm with the hdb branch whether you are eligible to keep as well.

Hi,

In order to hold on to HDB flat. You must meet the
eligible condition listed by HDB.

Do note that no one in Singapore are allowed to hold on to 2 HDB flats at the same time.

Thus if you already an owner of a HDB flat, then you will have to sell off one of them.

You will be able to inherit and hold onto the HDB flat if you meet all the eligible conditions to own a HDB flat.

If you currently own a HDB flat, you have the option to choose which flat you wish to keep. You will then be required to sell off the other flat.

Good afternoon,

You must be eligible under HDB eligibility schemes in order to take ownership of a inherited HDB.

If you are single singaporean and above 35, you can hold it under single singapore citizen scheme.

If you are married, you need to own it with your hubby. If both of you happen to have a HDB or private, you have to choose whether to keep your dad's unit or sell off yours.

If you own a HDB flat currently, then you will not be able to own 2 HDBs concurrently and therefore you will need to sell either one.

If you currently do not have any properties, then you and your husband will be able to keep the inherited flat.
