Hi. I signed a 1 year lease contract for a HDB apartment against a month of deposit, in presence of the owner. A few days ago, we made the handover and exchanged the keys against the first month of rental, still in presence of the owner. But when I moved in yesterday, another co-owner was inside the flat, apparently living there. Since then, The other co-owner with who I signed remains unreachable, and my deposits with it. Are the co-owners both liable in that case? I have the keys and my contract is legal... How can I get my money back? (An investigator works already on it, but the police is quite evasive about the liability questions) - Thanks

Afternoon Alex,

Did you check on the proof of ownership, prior to inking the agreement?
How many owners are there, in the unit?
Did all owners signed on the agreement?
Did you have the case done, with the use of an agent?
If the answers are NO, then good luck, as the chances of getting back your deposit is as good as zero.

From your feedback, I think it will be difficult to recover the deposit. Always engage an agent for your transactions. www.catherinepang.com Read More
