Hi I purchased a 3rm resale HDB with my S-pass holder wife 5 years back under non-citizen spouse scheme. My wife obtained her PR 4 years back, and is now attempting to obtain Singapore citizenship. As my wife is only the essential occupier of our current 3rm resale HDB flat, will she be subjected to ABSD if she purchased her 1st private property (without my name in it), after successfully obtaining Singapore citizen?

Hi Nic,

As she is only the occupier of the unit, she will not be considered to own the property or have any property count. Once she gets her citizenship status, and once MOP of 5 years are met, she can purchase the residential property as her 1st private property without any ABSD payable.

Hi,

Since it already more than 5 years and the MOP met already,

She can purchase the residential private property as the first property hence won't incur the ABSD.

However, if she buy under her own name then if need to take any mortgage will be under her name as well

Good afternoon Nic,

Your wife has to fulfill minimum occupation period first to be eligible to purchase a private property even though she is an occupier (i think this one no problem).

If she purchases a property without gotten the IPA approved, she will still be subject to ABSD as SPR.

May I know which stage is her application to become a citizen?
