Hi, I am a Singaporean citizen currently residing in Hong Kong.

As my wife is a hongkonger (and SPR), we have an apartment bought in Hong Kong for residence last year. However, we have plan to return to Singapore in 2 years time and I understand that there is eligibility criteria to fulfill if we were to go for a BTO, one being to sell my Hong Kong apartment when we come back.

My concern is that when we come back, it will not be an option for us to rent a place due to financial considerations and parents' new place may not be able to accommodate us while we are looking out for our own home.

Hence I will like ask for advise which options is more realistically feasible:

1) Parents added me to ownership of their flat while we appeal to HDB to give us more time to sell the property in HK
2) We apply for BTO while in HK and upon chosen, we appeal to extend the deadline to sell the HK property while processing the BTO purchase

Thanks.

Afternoon Johnny,

As you are owner of private property, you will not be eligible for BTO unit. You will need to sell off your property and wait for 30 months before you can apply for BTO.
Should you opt to buy over your parent's unit under resale, you will need to fulfill MOP before you can apply for BTO.
Therefore, the most ideal case would be for you to hunt for resale unit in Singapore and market your Hongkong property at the same time. However, we will need to know if you are financially able to do so should you fail to secure a buyer for your unit.

Do feel free to contact me for further discussion.

Good evening Johnny,

I am afraid to inform you that if you will like to apply for BTO, you have to sell off your overseas property and observe a waiting period of 30 months first before application.

By the way, care to share why do you want to be added into your parents' flat?

If you dont wish to rent a place or be stranded when you are back, perhaps purchasing a resale unit (HDB or private property) will be a better option for you.

Hope my explanation helps!

May I know how can I value add further in your property purchase?
