To give an overview on rental market in Singapore so as to provide a better idea on how to manage your budget.
KKH is located at the Southern Centre of Singapore. The properties around that area are mainly private and thus expensive.
Your better option should be to get a room in a HDB flat (government subsidized property).
The towns nearer to KKH from North are not cheap as well (please note it is even more expensive from South). You have to balance between budget and convenient.
There are no direct MRT station to KKH, the nearest MRT is Novena, which is 1.6km away.
However, there are 5 bus services that can brings you from Novena MRT to KKH direct.
Thus you have good choice of selecting one of the below town to match your budget and convenient, the list is from South to North (from KKH), the lower order in the list has cheaper rate than the higher order:
(1) Toa Payoh
(2) Bishan
(3) Ang Mo Kio
(4) Yishun
(5) Sembawang
(6) Woodlands
