Hi Gurus,

I know that we can't buy/own overseas property when buying new HDB flat, but how about buying new EC, does the same rule apply? If I have overseas property and willing to buy a new EC, can I keep my overseas property? Btw I am PR, and my wife is Singaporean, the overseas property is only under my name.

Please advise. Thanks.

For buying of BRAND NEW EC is the same as buying of HDB, you are not allowed to own any private property or overseas property. It is the same. During the years the property is being built and 5 years during which the EC is being built, you are not allowed to buy and own any private property or overseas property and that includes land banking, or investing in overseas projects.

Evening William,

New EC is still under the care of HDB till it fulfills the MOP of 5 years where it turns semi-privatized. Hence standard HDB ruling apply unless you are willing to go into resale EC.
