Is it a must to hire a lawyer for the OTP process of buying/selling a new private, resale private property and resale hdb ?

After the OTP do I also need to hire a lawyer for the exercising process ?

Hi,

Yes a conveyancing law firm is required to help you liaise with the bank loan redemption, CPF withdrawals and communicating with the counterparty law firm and government bodies and also to explain the OTP key terms in detail. If a bank loan is involved, it is likely you would need a conveyancing firm to assist with the case.

By the way, yes you are right and a legal firm is required. As for resale HDB and if it is a HDB loan, the buyer can choose to engage HDB law firm instead and it will be cheaper.

Yes a lawyer is needed to process on all property transactions and they assist in areas such as CPF withdrawal, bank loan redemption and title transfer. The only difference for HDB transaction is that HDB legal team are available to handle the transaction at a much lower fees. Yes a lawyer is a must when it comes to purchasing or selling or a property. The lawyer will ensure that your interests are best protected in the process. For HDB resale, you do not need to exercise the OTP in the presence of lawyer but for private purchase, it it best to do it in the lawyer's office.
