Hi Guru,
I am PR and my Boyfriend is Malaysian and he is not working in Singapore, but we intend to buy a condo and plan to register the name to be under both of us instead of I alone. So I would like check is it possible? And is there any additional charges or extra stamp duty that need to be paid because of he is foreigner?

Hi,

Yes its possible, however the stamp duties payable will be total 18% (ABSD of 15% + BSD of 3%). Your stamp duties will be only 8% instead if you purchase under your sole name, that will be more manageable.

Good morning buyer,

It's definitely okay to purchase under the combination of SPR and foreigner.

Do take note that stamp duties will be based on higher of the applicable rate of each individual. For instance, 5% additional buyer's stamp duty as SPR vs 15% as foreigner.

With a 10% difference in ABSD, you might want to reconsider to purchase solely under your name. For $1m property, you can save up to $100k.

Hi,

In my opinion, it is better to buy under your sole name so that you will pay about 8% of stamp duty instead of 18% if you purchase together with him. The 10% saved can be channelled into other uses such as renovation or furnishings.

2. if bank loan is required, since he is not working in Singapore, need to show proof of his income.
