Good morning f,

You can rent out your whole unit if you have fulfilled the 5 years MOP and your household has at least one Singaporean.

Usually owners will put their unit up for sale in the open market instead of selling back to HDB (rare cases).

You will be able to rent out the entire HDB flat is you're Singapore Citizen, and have met the 5-year MOP of the flat.

If you're intending to sell the flat, I would advise you not to rent it out. This is because by renting it out, you may not get a favorable selling price as compared to engaging a professional to upsell the flat.

HDB is unlikely to purchase back your flat, unless there is special circumstances for them to do that. They will usually advise you to sell it in the open market.

Hi,

1) Only an SC family is allowed to rent out the whole HDB flat upon MOP.
2) SPR family only allowed to rent out rooms.
3) All HDB flats are allowed to be put up to sell in the open market upon meeting MOP.
4) For those who sell back to the HDB will be ready for a monetary loss of at least 20% from the market, it could be even lesser though.
5) The HDB will encourage owners to sell in the open markets rather than to them. The HDB will have more problems buying them back.
6) If your flat is under MOP, you may put up an appeal to the HDB to allow you to sell in the open market:
