Hi,

It would be appreciated if I could get more details. May I know if you have met your Minimum Occupation Period (5 years for most cases) for your HDB unit? If so, you can apply for EC.

Next, may I know if you're looking to purchase a new or resale EC? Both will require different eligibility conditions. Will be glad to discuss more over the phone and clear all doubts. Thanks!

Afternoon,

You need to have fulfilled the MOP requirement before you can rent out your whole unit. As for your terms of applying for EC, can I assume that you are looking at new EC launches or resale EC? If you are looking at new launches, you are required to sell away your HDB within 6 months from keys collection on your EC. If you are looking into resale EC, you are eligible to keep your HDB unit, rent it out and stay in your EC, if you are SC. However, you will need to fulfill the CPF minimum sum requirement, payment of ABSD and prepare the necessary financing for the upcoming purchase.

Good day to you Mr,

I understand that your wife is planning to rent out your HDB flat and apply for an EC.

In order to be eligible to rent out your HDB flat, you will need to have fulfilled the Minimum Occupation Period for your flat.
If you intend to purchase a new EC, you will have to sell your HDB within 6 months after receiving the keys for your new EC.
The good news is that you will be able to purchase a resale EC if that is your intention.

Do take note that if you are applying for new EC, you have to dispose your HDB within 6 months after key collection of EC. During the waiting time for it to be ready, you are allowed to rent out your HDB if you fulfill the MOP. But where are you going to stay?

If you are thinking of holding on your HDB while purchasing another property, probably resale EC and private condo is your option not new EC. Bear in mind that one member of your household must be a SC so you can hold on to two properties.
