Hello,

I am newly married and would like to own my own property. However, due to the condition of my dad, who has stroke and is wheelchair-bound, he needs close care at home, so I will be living with my parents in their house.

I am looking to buy a unit soon.
As I would like to still own my own property, could I buy a hdb unit and immediately rent out the whole unit?

Hi there!

Unfortunately, you have to meet the 5 year Minimum Occupation Period (MOP) of HDB flat before you're able to lease the whole unit out.

Alternatively, you may want to purchase a lower quantum condo and rent it out for investment. There are many great choices in the market, both resale and projects.

Afternoon,

Should you opt to purchase a HDB unit, you will be required to fulfill the MOP requirement before you will be eligible to rent out the entire unit. If you opt to purchase the unit first and appeal to rent out the entire unit based on compassionate ground, the documentation provided might be against your favor.

Hi,

You can't purchase a hdb and rent out whole unit immediately, you need to fulfil MOP of 5 years. Alternatively you can consider a private property, that wouldn't be an issue in terms of renting out immediately for yields. Thanks and hope to assist further.

Good evening buyer,

As of current HDB regulations, you need to fulfill 5 years MOP before you can rent out your whole unit.

But nevertheless you can try to seek for approval from your "future" HDB branch office to rent out your unit within MOP.

Alternatively you can consider asking your parents to move in with you and rent out their house.

Probably you can share more about your situation so I will be in a better position to value add further.

You will not be able to rent out the whole unit due to the Minimum Occupation Period (MOP) requirement. However, due to your genuine needs to take care of your dad, you may appeal to HDB to allow you to rent out the whole unit during the MOP period.

Alternatively, you may want to consider either renting out the rooms or moving over to the new place together with your father and renting out your father's place.
