Afternoon Tay,

For PRs, if you have intention of renting out the HDB unit because your have got a better place to stay, why do you think it's only fair that you give up the government housing to people who need it more than you? Alternatively, stay in HDB unit and rent out your private property.

However, the rules is not dead. If you are requesting to rent out your unit due to overseas work commitment, I would believe that it's likely that HDB will provide the necessary approvals.

Dear Mr/Ms Tay,

The introduction of this regulation is to allow more needy citizens and SPRs to own a public housing as mentioned by Mike and Darren in their replies to you as well as my replies to earlier enquiries.

It is important to understand that not many others are as priviliged as some to be able to own multiple properties and some may even struggle to support 1 housing loan.

If you do have a valid reason to extend the subletting period of your HDB, I am pretty sure HDB will consider your grounds just like Mike has mentioned. Otherwise, since selling prices are still attractive now, why would you not consider cashing out and using the proceeds in other investments?
