Asked by
Do I have the right to claim for my deposit in the following scenario?
- signed 2 year contract and after discussion through agent, landlord agreed to release me one month ahead of expiry.
- went ahead to look for another place.
- decided to reconfirm arrangement to terminate 1 month in advance and was suddenly told my 1 month deposit will be forfeited since I didn't complete the tenancy.

The whole purpose of the prior discussions was to mutually agree on early termination. If deposit is to be forfeited, there wouldn't have been a need to discuss, right? Do I have the right to file a claim?
