In such a scenario, look after your own interest first. If landlord does not accept the clause, move on to another property. Ultimately, you have got nothing to lose in withdrawing your offer at this point of time. At this point of time, if the incident has already turned bad, I would strongly suggest that you move on as it will be a good 1 year at least for your stay in the apartment and may encounter incidents which requires landlord attention and actions.
