Hi Marvin,

It depends on your eligibility. Read up more about inheriting HDB at https://www.hdb.gov.sg/residential/living-in-an-hdb-flat/changing-owners-occupiers/retain-flat-following-life-events.

Hope it helps!

I have been in the real estate business since 2009, with more than 13 years of experience serving the Singapore real estate market.

I am very active in the residential segment of Singapore real estate market, having transacted hundreds of deals from HDBs to private condominiums and landed properties in Singapore, and have handled many unique cases in sales and purchases as well as rental deals.

Over the years, I have also established a network reaching out to more than 9,400 expatriates, bringing my market presence to both in and outside of Singapore. This has created an additional exposure when I manage my client's portfolios, on top of the conventional on and offline platforms, where other estate agents are relying on. This has allowed me to consistently convert leads into results.

With an evolving market, where change is the only constant, I have also been investing in upgrading of my knowledge and skills sets to improve myself and meet the demands of current and future market.

We are offering our clients a complimentary first consultation without obligations (Absolutely FREE!). Schedule for your FREE session today!

Hi Marvin,

1) You are able to keep the flat provided the following conditions are met:
(a) The flat was bought before 30th August 2010.
(b) It is not a BTO/SBF or a resale flat bought with grants.
(c) You have to satisfy the eligibility schemes apart from the owning private residential property thingy.

2) You will have to stay in the HDB flat to complete a 5 years MOP once you take over the ownership.
3) You are not eligible to invest in private property during the MOP.
4) You are also not allowed to sell this flat or rent out the whole unit during the MOP.
5) You have to check with the IRAS whether you are subject to any ABSD or inheritance tax. It is not required at this point in time. But I don't know whether this will change in the future.

Please give me a thumbs-up if the answer provided is relevant to your main concern. Thanks!!!

Hope the above answer your main concerns, but if there are more queries, please feel free to pm me if more information is needed.
I'll be glad to assist.

Best regards

Hi Marvin,

You can definitely inherit a HDB flat if it's being willed to you. But as to whether you can hold onto the HDB flat will depend on when the flat was originally bought by the deceased. The flat needs to be a non-subsidised flat bought before 30th August 2010.

In the event that you cannot hold onto the flat, you will need to sell it off in the open market. Do take note that you will also need to serve a 5-year MOP for the flat should you be eligible to hold onto the flat.

I am experienced and well-versed in both HDB and private transactions. I will be able to assist you in your property plans. Please get in touch with me for a more in-depth discussion.

Should you need require further assistance in matters relating to property, please contact me at my mobile +65 97 48 63 05. I will be happy to assess and share with you the possibilities for you in the current market.

Thank you.

Best regards,
Robbie Chen
