It is not by default that salespersons share the commission, especially if you are only looking at 1 year lease. We are earning our bread and butter too just like you do not work for free. You may opt to source for units on your own if you are unwilling to pay commission. Otherwise you may work out a comfortable figure for commissions payable with your appointed salesperson. There is no fixed rates for service fees which explains why it is not a default to share commission, as the final amount shared may not be worth the effort.

End of the day if you are not comfortable with paying the commission to the agent, there can be three outcomes
- either the unit he/she recommends may be out of the reckoning
- look for another agent
- DIY

As the rate may be negotiable by the two agents, one way is to work with an agent willing to take your case without you paying full rate.

At your rent amount, I am sure there will be agents willing to assist you.
