Advice needed from experienced folks here. Facing some issue from my old agent. I rented out a property to a company for 1 yr. The contract expired and the agent never bothered to contact. Also, he never assisted when the company defaulted on rent for 2 months. I did not renew with the company but issued a new contract in the personal name of the old occupier . THe agent now wants both me and the company to pay renewal commission. Is this a valid request? The old agreement only mentions "in the event that the landlord should grant the tenant an extension of the said term herein the landlord shall pay the agency renewal commission". Will the new tenant be considered same as the old tenant? THe new tenant is mentioned in the agreement as a occupant.
