Hi,

1) It is mandatory to apply for an HFE before buying a HDB flat; BTO/SBF & resale.
2) You will find that you are not able to complete the HFE before reaching 35 yrs old under Single status.
3) You should apply for an HFE first to know whether you are eligible to buy a HDB flat.

**It depends on your marital status and household nucleus:**

* **If you are single (unmarried or divorced) buying alone:** **No.** Under HDB’s **Single Singapore Citizen (SSC) Scheme** or **Joint Singles Scheme (JSS)**, you must be at least **35 years old** to purchase a new or resale HDB flat.
* **If you can form an eligible family nucleus:** **Yes (from age 21)**. You can buy an HDB flat before turning 35 under several schemes:

1. **Public Scheme (Family Nucleus):**
* Buying jointly with your **spouse and children** (if married).
* Buying jointly with your **parents and/or siblings** (if unmarried).

2. **Fiancé / Fiancée Scheme:**
* Buying with your intended spouse, with the marriage to be solemnised within 3 months of taking key possession.

3. **Single Parent / ASSIST Scheme:**
* If you are divorced or widowed with legal custody, care, and control of a child.

4. **Orphans Scheme:**
* If you and your unmarried siblings are orphans (at least one deceased parent was a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident), you can buy together from age 21.

* **Resale Flats:** You can buy any flat size (Standard, Plus, or unclassified resale flats, except 3Gen) with no income ceiling.
* **New BTO Flats:** Eligible for 2-room Flexi units across Standard, Plus, and Prime locations (subject to the $7,000 monthly income ceiling).
