A forest-inspired natural wonder of Singapore that reflects and redefines the setting of its Queenstown locale, Stirling Residences is a fine example of how development design can be inspired by the landscape along with the concept of creating a relaxing neighbourhood-style lifestyle for residents.

Developed by the joint forces of property-development powerhouses Logan-Nanshan, Stirling Residences features carefully thought-out design ethics that create a renewed environment by conserving existing site elements. Set to complete in 2021, the development won Best Private Condo Architectural Design at the 8th annual PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards (Singapore) in October 2018. P&T Consultants, the development architects and interior specialists, as well as Ecoplan Asia, landscape designers, are part of this success story.

Henry Woon, director of Atelier Ten, specialising in environmental design consultancy, is one of this year’s judges and highlights how the development’s architectural design fits in and enhances the natural landscape.

“Stirling Residences is a contemporary and luxurious interpretation of tropical architecture with its elevated units, extensive landscaping and sky gardens. An impressive addition to the skyline with special attention given to minimise overlooking and distant views of the sea, Stirling Residences stood out with its preservation of existing mature rain trees and its integration of landscaping with a children’s nursery. The varying topography is fully utilised during design and construction, allowing for access at multiple levels without extensive excavation.”

Three buildings, between 38 and 40 storeys high, house 1,259 units, with 80 facilities set within three outdoor zones: The Fern Forest, The Tropical Forest and The Rain Forest, all within a plot size of over 227,000 sq ft. Units, which consist of one- to four-bedroom penthouses, are raised above the ground to maintain site integrity, prevent adverse effects on local residents, and allow for greater landscaping and more amenities. Meanwhile, existing contours are cleverly integrated into the landscaping and architectural design to create a fresh and harmonious lifestyle environment.

Water features, pavilions, communal social spaces, forest trails, a canopy walk and stargazing lawn add to the overall concept of creating an oasis that fits in the area’s laid-back, edge-of-the-city ambiance. Stirling Residences is an interpretation of modern life, balancing work and leisure, where contemporary design meets nature. This is expressed in how the architecture complements the fluidity of the landscape, creating lines that add light, space and Zen-like outdoor elements.

There is a sense of resort luxury and spa tranquility that is achieved through the use of contrasting materials, abstract patterns and the creation of carefully crafted landscape spaces. This, along with the elevated position and prominence of Stirling Residences results in an almost poetic architectural design ethos that is as delicate as it is bold. The strong language of the architecture reflects the quiet, quaint, yet dynamic city-fringe neighbourhood surrounding Stirling Residences. 18 sky terraces and two roof gardens, along with interiors that add space and natural light, continue Logan-Nanshan’s architectural design narrative upwards and inwards for residents to feel even closer to nature.
