Usually agents charge % of selling price if they represent the seller. For buyer's agent, usually how do they charge commission? If its based on the purchase price, then won't it undermine the buyer's interest (who wants the lowest purchase price) as a higher price would earn them more commission?

Morning Lin,

Commission payable is based on the selling and purchased price of the unit transacted. The rate payable is to be discussed between the client and the salesperson. All salesperson are supposed to work in their client's interest. Hence your salesperson should work within your budget unless specifically stated otherwise. And since sales and purchases can only exist within two willing parties, you can opt not to purchase the unit if you deemed that the unit is over-priced.

Hi Lin

I believe you are referring to HDB cases. Yes, buyer would pay 1% to the buyer's agent. But then again, the prices are very open and you make the final decision to purchase or not at the end of the day.

Pls feel free to let me know if you need any assistance. Cheers!
