My husband's name is listed as co-owner in his parents' HDB. We got married last year and are now applying to HDB to get his name out of his parent's HDB so we can get our own place. The application is tentatively approved and we're waiting for his parents' new HLE to be approved. Can we start on our own HLE application and house-hunting(resale)?

Is there anything we need to take note of when doing the application/buying our own place. I'm a first-timer applicant, but I think he will considered as second-timer.

Hi,

1) Yes, you may starts on your HLE application before completion. HLE lasted 6 months.
2) If you are confident his parents will receive sufficient funds to take over his share, you may register for "Intent to buy" upon receiving your HLE.
3) It is better to get the funds approved before your house hunt, as you might over/under estimate your financial capacity.
4) Since you are purchasing resale flat, there are nothing to do with 1st or 2nd timer. This does not affect you from purchasing.
5) If you did not apply for grants in this purchase, furture BTO purchase you will still remain as 1st timer application. Thus you does not lose your priority as 1st timer applicant.
6) Do note that if you apply for grant in this purchase, you shall be consider as 2nd timer applicant in future BTO application.
7) Do your maths before deciding whether to apply for grants, as resale levy will be imposed for future BTO application.
