Asked by
My brother and I own a 4-room flat in Tampines which we bought when we were both single PRs. He is no longer a PR as he's lived abroad for a long time. I am now a Singaporean living in the U.S., and I will apply for the US citizenship eventually. My question is: is there any implication if we sell the flat when we are both foreigners, or is it better for me to sell it now that I am still a Singaporean? The flat has been fully-paid for. Thank you!

Morning Choong,

To apply for US citizenship, you would likely be required to give up Singapore citizenship. Since your brother is no longer SPR, it would be good that you sell your HDB unit now. This would also allow the CPF used for your current housing to be refunded to your CPF account. Upon giving up your citizenship, you can then apply to withdraw out your CPF monies.

Do feel free to contact me for further discussion.
