Asked by Worried Rentor
I signed a tenancy agreement on Saturday. For various reasons I made a mistake and I need to get out of the agreement.
The tenancy agreement has not been stamped. I informed the agent within 24 hours of my change of heart. I have not yet received a signed copy of the agreement as the landlord is not in Singapore and it was being sent for his signature.
The agreement is not due to start for 6 weeks. I wrote a cheque for the deposit but it has not yet been cashed.
I made it clear to the agent that I wanted to stop the agreement but he has informed me that it is already legally binding although not stamped.
Is this true? Would like to understand details as I am being told it is to late and I will have to abide by the agreement. I have offered to compensate both the agent and the landlord for wasted time.
Many thanks
