I signed a 2 year rental agreement for an HDB flat in July 2021. I will only move in on 1 October 2021. This hand written contract was written in Chinese by the landlord.
I paid a deposit of $200 as a confirmation and agreed in the clause that I will forfeit 1 month rental (which I have not paid) if I did not fulfil the full 2 year rental agreement.
However I have decided to not move in on 1 October 2021.
I asked the owner if I can break this hand written agreement and offered to not take back the $200. However, owner wants to charge me for one month rental (which I have not paid).
Can I seek some advise how I can avoid paying the one month fee as I have not moved in? I do not mind forfeiting the $200 confirmation fee. Is the hand written Chinese agreement valid?
